Visit FileForums For example, Infinite Space is a mod that only adds planets and stars and things, though much of it is included in E4X. There are also some more specific mods out there. Maelstrom and Sins of the Fallen are the main mods that add races that are uniquely their own and not based on any Sci-fi universe in particular.Į4X and Distant Stars are the main "Vanilla" enhancement mods, that is they add or improve Sins content in almost every way but do not add new factions to play as. However, I've not played any of the ones I listed after Fall of Kobol, so I cannot say if they are complete enough to be considered "Major" with those other ones you listed. 
If you want more Sci-fi series, there is another Star Trek mod, Armada III, as well as mods for Battlestar Galactica (Fall of Kobol, which is apart of the Sins of the Fallen mod you might also try out), a few different mods for Star Gate, and of course Babylon 5 (Sins of the Younger Races), Freelancer, Warhammer 40k and Mass Effect.
